Laboratory Optimization Specialist
Role:
Hologic is seeking a Laboratory Optimization Specialist I (LOS), responsible for working to strengthen Hologic’s relationships with our customers by offering best-in-class Lean/Six Sigma based consulting services centering around Hologic products and solutions. Includes supporting the sales process as well as customer workflow analysis and review.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- The Laboratory Optimization Specialist is responsible for utilizing their skills to assist Sales and Applications colleagues with lean evaluations for key accounts with a primary emphasis on the use of Hologic instrumentation.
- Provide support and expertise to assist peers with the assessment of new and existing customer laboratories and work practices; recommend near and longer-term improvements that deliver efficiency, safety, and effectiveness to customer stakeholders.
- Evaluate and make recommendations related to the workflow from accessioning to cytology through molecular and conduct workflow & statistical analysis engagements in customer facilities focused on optimizing the performance of Hologic assays and instrumentation within the laboratory, thereby accelerating the sales cycle and improving the customers’ insights into Hologic’s value proposition.
- Develop thorough knowledge and understanding of customer needs and challenges experienced in customer laboratory facilities (Clinical & Pathology laboratories) and customize solutions for customers in conjunction with Hologic’s sales team with a primary focus on Lean/Six Sigma initiatives.
- Perform data identification, collection, mining and analysis.
- Interface and work collaboratively with Hologic’s sales and service teams to help achieve overall Hologic objectives and drive sales growth while differentiating Hologic’s products from competition by providing customers unique insight into Hologic’s value proposition on a system and solution level.
- Assist in development and delivery of presentations to influence outcomes, in line with overall company and division objectives, at all customer organizational levels (laboratory technologists up to and including executive leadership).
- Identify new tools and techniques to continue to improve and refine Hologic Lean/Six Sigma lab optimization methodologies.
- Supports the sales process and performs Lean assessments with the oversight of a Lean/Six Sigma Black Belt.
- Provides input for existing and developing R&D initiatives.

- Demonstrated skills and abilities in Lean manufacturing and/or Six Sigma methodologies.
- Strong organization and analytical skills to uncover key technical, operational, and strategic issues.
- Demonstrated the ability and desire to learn new concepts and build upon existing training.
- Advanced verbal and written communication skills to influence customer decision makers by articulating complex ideas and influencing others to adopt solutions. This includes the ability to credibly recommend changes to lab practices to improve waste, cost, quality, and turnaround times.
- Strong interpersonal skills to effectively influence people at various organization levels within the customer site.
- Demonstrated strategic planning and organizational skills in addition to strong technical product knowledge of laboratory instrumentation, informatics and automation solutions.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and sustain strong customer relationships
- Strong OS, iOS, Windows, Adobe, Salesforce.com, and Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Teams, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, Visio) are required.
- Ability to travel 50% - 75% in this position.
Education:
- Must have a minimum of a BA/BS degree in medical healthcare technology, related science or engineering
- Six Sigma Green Belt is preferred
Experience:
- Must have 3+ years of experience in Laboratory / Clinical environment
- 3+ years commercial experience in a sales, service-oriented, or a consulting environment using Lean/Six Sigma or similar continuous improvement analytical tools/processes in a laboratory and/or healthcare setting
- Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as in a team environment, with all levels of company employees and customer contacts
Additional Details:
- Since this position requires driving extensively during the workday, a valid driver license and driving record satisfactory to the Company, as well as a serviceable vehicle available for work use is mandatory.
The annualized base salary range for this role is $77,000 - $120,300 and is bonus eligible. Final compensation packages will ultimately depend on factors including relevant experience, skillset, knowledge, geography, education, business needs and market demand.
