We are seeking a dedicated and experienced R&D Laboratory Specialist to join our dynamic team here in San Diego! As a knowledge expert on lab management processes for the R&D department assisting with all aspects of managing the R&D labs, you will develop strong relationships with our internal customers in R&D by understanding their needs and providing proactive support in ensuring we have seamless lab operations and resolve any logistical or facility-related challenges.

This is a fully onsite role based in San Diego, CA.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the needs of the R&D department when manager is unavailable.
  • Mentor junior members of the Lab Management Department.
  • Provides operational and safety training on the laboratory facility to new employees.
  • Assists writing and executing protocols and procedures. 
  • Act as a liaison with IS to manage technical support and project implementation issues.
  • Coordinates the tracking of clinical samples for R&D. 
  • Analyzes inventory trends for internal demand and prepares monthly reports, i.e., tracking universal reagents needs to support ongoing projects, etc. 
  • Works with Planning Department to maximize the use of materials and reagents to reduce scrap costs. 
  • Contacts suppliers and manages corrective actions related to lab shipments. 
  • Manage master equipment list, schedule service vendors, verify calibration report, and in-house maintenance duties.
  • Assist R&D facilities management with day-to-day running of the laboratories.  Interact with planning and support outside vendors to ensure an appropriate and efficient supply chain for R&D.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • BA/BS in Life Science or equivalent
  • Minimum of 5+ years related experience.
  • Laboratory Bio Safety Certification a plus.
  • Extensive knowledge in chemical safety.
  • Knowledge of cGMP guidelines and familiar with 21 CFR Part 820.
  • Experience with MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, Oracle
  • Ability to effectively work with cross-functional departments within the company.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skill level required. Demonstrated ability to interface with all levels of management, including resolving laboratory related issues.
  • Good organization and follow-up skills.
  • Excellent time management and detail orientation skills, with the ability to handle multiple priorities. 
  • Good understanding of lab equipment
  • Excellent attention to details, critical thinking, analytical skills, a high level of initiative, ability to effectively solve problems, and strong customer service skills a must.
  • Working knowledge of laboratory information management systems.
  • Familiarity with IRB protocol management and medical research compliance practices.
  • Inventory Control 

The annualized base salary range for this role is $78,700 to $123,000 and is bonus eligible. Final compensation packages will ultimately depend on factors including relevant experience, skillset, knowledge, geography, education, business needs, and market demand.
